The route

Most itineraries drive from Pokhara to Nayapul or Ulleri, climb the stone steps to Ghorepani, walk up Poon Hill for sunrise, then loop down through Tadapani and Ghandruk.

Who it suits

It is a good first trek and works for families. The Ulleri steps are hard on the knees, but the days are short and teahouses are frequent.

Leave Ghorepani around 4:45 am to reach the top before sunrise. On clear mornings you see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
